Been there, done that. =( Generally, if this someone is under 25 yrs. old, he has more options: group homes, Job Corps, specialized teen and young adult shelters. And, of course, there's always the regular city shelters! The one I was in was at Bedford and Atlantic Avenues, and nicknamed "Castle Grayskull" (from the "Masters of the Universe" cartoon). IIRC, there were three meals a day (certainly two), but they were like snacks. Better was the church groups and such which would swing up every other day or so with real hot food. It really wasn't that bad at that shelter -- there were many folks who actually had jobs, like myself, and woke up for work every day. They even do the laundry for you! At least back in the '90s...but it's true that they are dirty and crowded. Not dangerous, though. I mean, I'm an Asian guy with glbuttes! I'd been in Army infantry and all, sure, but still...if anyone was going to stick out like a sore thumb it would have been me. White On White CrimeWhite On White Crime. Met some real great chess players there...guys just out of prison...many are big muscular guys, but surprisingly quiet and gentle. Frankly, the shelters are safer than park benches. Look on the bright side: you can always sue the City for $$$$$$ if something goes wrong! wylbur37
