-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Veterans Peace Contingent, NYC Vets Day Parade - Nov 11 Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit sent by Vietnam Veterans Against the War - Nov 7, 2005 March in the NYC Veterans Day Parade From Dave Cline Veterans, Families and Friends are asked to join the Veterans Peace Contingent in this year's NYC Veterans Day parade up Fifth Avenue this Friday November 11. *Contingent buttembly is at 28 Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues at 10:30 AM. *The Parade will begin moving out around 11 AM after the traditional wreath laying ceremony at Madison Square Park. This year the parade is being billed as the Nation's Parade, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of WW 2 and is being co-sponsored by the Department of Defense, the City of New York and the United War Veterans Council. Meanwhile American soldiers and Iraqi citizens continue to die in an unjust imperial war abroad while veterans healthcare and other pressing social needs are destroyed here at home. For a number of years, Veterans For Peace and Vietnam Veterans Against the War have marched as a united contingent and have always gotten an overwhelmingly positive response from the spectators along the parade route. This year we will be joined by members of Military Families Speak Out, Iraq Veterans Against the War, Black Veterans for Social Justice and several other local vets groups. We are also having a Bring Them Home Now float which elderly and disabled vets can ride on. To reserve space on the float call 212-726-0557 and leave your name and call back number The overall themes and slogans we will be marching under are:Support The Troops--Bring Them Home Now & Treat Them Right When They Get Back. We are also asking United for Peace and Justice and other peace groups to organize "peace blocks" throughout the route of march to have an organized presence with pro-soldier-anti-war signs and banners among the buttembled onlookers. On the nest day, Saturday, November 12 we are holding a *Veterans & Military Family Members Speak Out about the War and the Treatment of Veterans *from *2:3--6:30 PM* at the 1199 Hospital Workers SEIU offices at *330 West 42 Street* (Break Room, 9th Floor). There will be a number of speakers and an open mike. All are welcome to attend. Remember Veterans Day started as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of WW 1, a day to commemorate peace. Let's keep that spirit alive and continue to stand up against the war.
