"Do you know what data mining is?"

Yes, I just spent 4 hours clearing my system. WebOffer, and eZulA. It was a gigantic pain in the butt, and my customers get charged 100 bucks for it.

I caught it from a FOREIGN SITE. Some .uk, ru, Finland ( fi ?) ,and other foreign sights are real bad, and this particular one I cannot name, since I failed to see the 2 letter extension, before it autoinstalled and embedded itself in these folders: C:-, C:-system, C:windows , c:programfilesweboffer &Ezula, c:-programfiles-commonfiles-lovex..,

It slammed in about 354 registry entries. It auto reinstalled on shutdown and bootup. it auto copied upon the 3 finger salute,Spybot S&D failed, teatimer failed, adaware failed, immunizations failed, active X blockers failed,..etc.

Yeah, I know what it's all about.

" Do you realize how easy it is to log website hits, downloads, p2p, email and chat conversations at your ISP's server? "

Well, sure, as easy as it was for them to slam into my computer.

"Do you know the provisions granted by USA PATRIOT for Internet spying? "

Yes, but you don't, as follows.

"In essence, there are no longer any limits to Internet spying. Any ISP can be tapped at any time without a warrant. "

Well, a judges consent is required. Not sure if that includes a 'warrant' or not. Nonetheless, a judge must be contacted, and give permission.

"There's no need for secret cameras and "bug" microphones. "

You raise important issues. I do believe that the US military would be difficult to turn against Americans en mbutte...

Well, sure there is. They've been using them for quite sometime, and will continue to. Just getting what is typed into a computer is not enough. You need who is present at the keyboard, their visage, their surropundings, their voice pattern, etc.

You seem to forget, it's not accepted in court , yet, science that says it can track a typer with an example of their typing pattern, and a good keylogger with entry timer, and a comparative. Not accepted in court. So, they absolutely need more than just transmission from a certain computer, sorry there feller.

"The textual information being sent through unsecured and unencrypted channels over the Internet is easily sniffed, logged, archived, text analyzed and data mined, possibly in real time. "

Well, hundreds of thousand of computers , many of the internet serving ones, cannot be duplicated in power or strength to mine the flow of data that is out there. We simply do not have a large and fast enough supercomputer to mine even one thousandth or one ten thousandth of what is sent over the internet every second. It doesn't exist.

The fastest single system to date, capable of over 1000 teraflops per second was recently installed in a college, with the governments help. It consisted of oh.. what was it -- 200 server towers the size of regrigerators( with refrigeration cooling :-) ) each containing something like 100 2.2 gigahertz Intel Zeons, all linked and working together.

Eventhis ginormous system cant track a single of the 13 nameservers for the internet, and the traffic flow it helps manage.

Something more important than the SUPERBOWL

"Under the provisions of USA PATRIOT, a federal agent can walk into an ISP's offices, flash their FBI badge, and demand that the ISP let them log everything going into or out of the ISP's servers. The ISP has no right to refuse. "

Well, actually that's incorrect. The logging can only be done for the requested IP's and suspect IPs' contained in the court order.

" The agents do not need to produce a warrant." They must produce the judges order- court order or whatever they call it.

" The ISP must comply fully, and cannot tell anyone about it, under pain of imprisonment. "

I believe that is correct. Of course, that's always the case. Asecret tap isn't a secret tap, if you announce to the suspects they are being watched.

"It is impossible to know how many servers are being logged and analyzed, since that information is now a matter of national security under USA PATRIOT. "

Well, I'm not so sure it is impossible. I'd wager we can get some kind of idea. I'd imagine Ashcroft will comment on it- sooner or later.

In the meantime,. make sure you have your OWN SYSTEM protected from the wacko private hacker company data miners. That's what you should really be concerned about.

I've gone along fine, going everywhere for a long time, with what I had as protection. Last night, some apparently new flavor got through.

Now I've had to upgrade protections, with another version of something else I had been using.

Yeah, it was a huge pain in the butt, luckily I'm a technician, and knew what the hell I was doing.

The average Joe winds up with a total washout, or a hundred dollar bill, and likely a clean slate install harddrive. ( Not many techs care enough or are good enough to clean some of these new highjackers. I even had a particularly nasty combination beat me at a customers once. They had 22 different highjackers in their system with over 540 runing processes, and it took the thig 24 minutes to boot up. It was a 2.2 gigahertz system. LOL)

Yeah, well, so- as far as Echelon and total information awareness, keep your pants on. Private wacko hackers with their spyware are far outpacing anything the slow fumbling beraucratic government has been able to accomplish.

The FBI, as you know, didn't even have their own computers up to snuff, and were using decades and more mix n match crap programs to run their own poo.

You know, it's kinda like the loopballs who whined we have satellites looking down on every square inch of Iraq, so we knew what was going on.

I looked into that, and thought a bit, and found out a geosynchronous isn't available. What is, makes 7 revolutions around the earth in one days time, and has a few minute window over Iraq. Besides all that, you might consider it would be pretty difficult to hire enough people to persuse through pictures of 437,000 square kilometers of Iraq , 24-7-365.

It's the same thing with the internet. They won't bother, unless they want to target someone, and even if they do, they'ell have a tough enough time getting someone to truck over to wherever and ditz around with it.

That's why last time I checked, they had blocked a total of 164 million dollars in terror money worldwide. It's LAUGHABLE, and that was all about the internet, and banking transactions online, and communications via internet and digigtal-- so....
