Could you explain how urging Rhode Island voters to ask their own Senator to cast his vote in accordance to their wishes is "disrespecting" their property rights? I agree. Your cheap rationalization should be most fascinating. The people of Rhode Island are AGAINST the nomination of John Bolton. It is outsiders -- the administration and other right wing lunatics like you -- who are asking the Senator to turn his back on democracy, turn his back on the will of the voters and to support a miserable failure. That's why I'm writing to urge you to forward the following email to anyone you know in our neighboring state of Rhode Island. It's critical that the Senator hears from people all across his state. Senator Chafee is under enormous political pressure from the White House and right-wing organizations to cast the deciding vote in favor of Mr. Bolton. That's why we're urging Senator Chafee's consbreastuents to contact his office immediately and call on him to resist that pressure. After you have made your call please let us know: Have you ever noticed that in the Bush Administration, the only way to get a job promotion is to bungle our national security? As under secretary of state for arms control and international security for the past four years, Mr. Bolton has achieved little. In fact, we secured more nuclear materials in the two years before September 11th than in the two years after. North Korea and Iran are now burgeoning nuclear states. This record earned John Bolton a nomination to the UN? How can we believe that this nomination makes any sense at all? We can't believe it. That's why, in the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, I will be voting against the Bolton nomination. If Senator Chafee doesn't believe in John Bolton, he should vote with me. The Senator's press secretary has acknowledged that "We are overwhelmingly hearing from the people of Rhode Island that they are opposed to the Bolton nomination." He went on to say that Senator Chafee "has voted mostly with the people of Rhode Island's interests in mind." But Rhode Island needs a Senator who will always vote with the people of Rhode Island's interests in mind - even when that means standing tall in the face of withering pressure from the right-wing Republican establishment. I'm urging all Rhode Islanders to call on Senator Chafee to take a stand on principle. Tell his office how strongly you feel about his vote on the Bolton nomination. Thank you for acting on this vitally important decision. Sincerely, John Kerry P.S. Why retain and promote those who have failed to make America more safe and secure? Donald Rumsfeld has been a disaster as Secretary of Defense. That's why over 800,000 people have signed our pebreastion supporting my call for Rumsfeld's resignation. Yet the President stands stubbornly by him. Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz has made repeated and serious miscalculations about the costs and risks America would face in Iraq. Yet now the Bush Administration wants us to believe he is the right person to lead the World Bank. And now, the administration wants to add John Bolton to this astonishing list. Please urge Senator Chafee to take a stand.
