ACLU sues for special benefits for gays
Pay really close attention here. I am a retired civil servant that worked in the welfare office. I saw hundreds of cases where people were NOT ALLOWED TO MARRY THE PERSON THEY LOVE...

some other factors (i've lived in both states as well...)

RI is THE mafia state. per capita, you can't get much more mafia than RI. hey, ct has mafia too, but you can't throw a stone in RI without hitting somebody who is either in the mafia, or related to somebody in the mafia, etc.

lets talk central falls.

also, injection highway and all...

Sir Marksman The fascists Christians. Having fun serving Satan? A week and three days from now. "Happy...

RI has MUCH MUCH better surf (most of CT's surfable coastline is blocked by Long Island... Montauk, NY otoh... WEEE!)

Connecticut on the whole has more of an air of "exclusivity" ON THE WHOLE and also has more of a connection to (lord forbid) new yorkers, and identifies more with new york, since the stateis close to it. thus, especially among the NY suburbs (pretty much the western half of Ct.), they have an NYC "thang" whereas RI has (definitely) much more of it's OWN thang, although it does live in the shadow of boston. RI grudgingly accepts being a (sort of) suburb of Mbutt, but you can wear a yankees cap in CT and get away with it.

in RI, that can be a "killin' offense". and they WON'T find the body.

the bluebloods still hang in newport. they still have the oh so exclusive beaches (like baileys) to exclude the "riffraff" from.

much like the cape has their kennedy compound, etc. (and why you will never see a state like Mbutt ever adopt laws that allow access to the coast by the common people. the MA elite would never want to share their exclusive beaches after all)

RI has more (in general) of a blue collar appeal, and down to earthness.

If that's your experience, then you'll understand this: Laws which states enact, but which violate consbreastutional rights such...

RI doesn't grudgingly accept corruption. heck, it REVELS in it. as long as the corrupt are also EFFICIENTLY corrupt

Thomas Sowell Gay marriage rights In all the states where gay marriage was on the ballot this year, the voters...

see: the endless buddy cianci saga.

RI is the "little state that could". they TRY harder.

RI has somewhat of an inferiority complex vis a vis MA, it's big brother. it's a source of consternation to many RI'ers that they have to drive through parts of mbutt. in order to take the most efficient route from Providence to Portsmouth, etc.

and RI has WEIRD laws. alan dershowitz commented on this during the whole claus von bulow thang.

RI also has a far greater per capita drama quotient. claus von bulow, doris duke, etc. etc. etc.

old money in RI KNOWS HOW TO PARTY!
