The claim that "gay people are more likely to be guilty of fill in the unpleasant or criminal behavior of your choice" is typically made by the same people who think that homoloveuality is almost nonexistent, and that only around 1% of the population is gay. Gay activists traditionally argued that one person in ten is gay. If you accept that statistic (which is plausible but probably high), then child molestation is a disproportionately heteroloveual male crime. However, if you accept the antigay propagandists' 1% theory (which simple everyday experience disproves), then you can see where the claims of criminal behavior come from. Any number compared with 10% of the population produces a lower ratio than the same number compared with 1% of the population. Of course, the whole question of "what percentage is gay" is simplistic: at some point, the people running a survey have to ask themselves "how gay is gay" and "who counts as gay?" I suspect that explains some of the differences in results. Well, that and the fact that almost all heteroloveuals are willing to tell a surveyor that they're heteroloveual, while in much of the U.S., it's dangerous to be known as gay, so obviously the data is going to skew toward heteroloveuality. It's amusing that the people who worry about same-love marriage becoming ramapant are often the same people who claim that homoloveuality is exceedingly rare, and that longterm relationships among us nonexistent people are almost nonexistent. In other words, they think that homoloveuality is extremely rare only when it suits their argument. -- Steven Capsuto
