As we know, anything "unpleasant womanin' Bonney", aka Bill Talyor, posts has to be double checked due to his habit of selective quoting or altering quotes to spice them up (as is evident by the lie on the subject line). The article appeared in and started with

TEHRAN, Iran Apr 18, 2006 (AP) Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Tuesday Iran will "cut the hand of any aggressor" that threatens it, and insisted that Iran's military has to be equipped with the most modern technology.

"Today, you are among the world's most powerful armies because you rely on God," Ahmadinejad told a parade to commemorate Iran's Army Day.

"Iran's enemies know your courage, faith and commitment to Islam and the land of Iran has created a powerful army that can powerfully defend the political borders and … cut the hand of any aggressor," Ahmadinejad said.

The president made the comments amid an escalating tension between Iran and the international community over Tehran's suspected nuclear activities.

His rhetoric aside, (1) he was making a speach to his troops and (2) he probably is at least slightly aware that the U.S. invaded Iraq after Bush made similarly ritual noises to what Bush is making now. Ahmadinejad is no doubt concerned and is trying to send a signal for the U.S. and others to stay out of his country.

As a speach to the troops, think of it as the sort of speach a football coach makes before a game. Do you really expect him to tell his armed forces that they are a bunch of wimps who will get their buttes kicked? :-)

The whole thing deserves a collective yawn. After all, he doesn't want his country to be invaded and otherwise everything he said was for internal consumption. It's really no different than Bush saying, "Bring it on."
