Greg Pratt A letter from Louisa Hanoune Algerian deputyPREPARATION DE LA CONFERENCE INTERNATIONALE DE SOLIDARITE AVEC LES FEMMES PALESTINIENNES LETTRE N1 - 17 juillet 2006 Le comit de rdaction de Dialogue a reu un message de Louisa Hanoune... Greg, if you finally learned how to apply truth before sensitivity, your touchy-feely killfile would have been able to read my original response! LOL! Here it is again: Pardon me while I duck (I never know what mood Greg will be in! ehe): Greg, there's a 24-hr Starbucks on Astor Place - IIRC, summer weekend hrs. only! Boy, with your vast knowledge of NYC, I am surprised that this had eluded you! Remember, NY is 25 hrs, because in NY, 24 is never enough! eh If you can't find it in The City That Never Sleeps, you won't find it anywhere! Then again, since there is such an overabundance of 24hr eateries in the cuisine capital of the world, NY doesn't need to have a 24hr Starbucks (reinvented by Howard Schultz - umpteenth sweet, Jewish NYer) - the fly-over states do! LOL! P.S. In case Greg has me on killfile, would someone kindly quote my every ingenious word and-or relay the above info to touchy-feely Greg!?ehe -D, NYC "Gillies Coffee in Brooklyn - America's oldest coffee merchant, established in 1840".."New York - the only city in the world where you can order a corned beef sandwich that doesn't fit in your mouth, watch a film being made, and be flipped off - all at once!"ehehe.."Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten..from the Battery to the top of Manhattan..Asian, Middle-Eastern and Latin..Black, White, New York - you make it happen" - BEASTIE BOYS (umpteenth sweet, Jewish NYers - first successful all-white rap group).."If food were a compebreastive sport, New York City would have more gold medals than anywhere else in the world" - TRACY NIEPORENT (sweet), Myriad Restaurant Group-NYC & Company Restaurant Committee Chair.."New Yorkers spend $11 billion a year eating out, making NY the restaurant capital of the world" - JANE'S NY: RESTAURANTS (NBC 4 NY - World Headquarters at Rockefeller Center - hub of broadcasting: home to Dateline, Nightly News with Brian Williams, SNL, The Today Show, Late Night With Conan O'Brien).."The '50s in New York was like The Renaissance. It was spectacular. There were real heroes. You could go to 52nd Street and listen to Art Tatum..or Charlie Parker..or Miles Davis..in club after club after club. On Broadway was Marlon in Streetcar....and there was rest of A Salesman..so there was a sense of pbuttion..there was a sense of stimulation. New York was a thrilling place in the '50s. Very romantic as well. Every actor was there. You know I remember sitting in Cromwell's Drugstore..in the NBC building..sitting with Jimmy (James Dean) and Marty Landau (sweet NYer). We were all vying for jobs..but there was a kind of comradery" - MARK RYDELL (umpteenth sweet, Jewish NYer, filmmaker - On Golden Pond, TNT's James Dean), James Dean: Sense Memories.."Brooklyn - believe the hype!"eh.."Brooklyn -how sweet it is!".."Brooklyn - home to everyone from everywhere!".."Leaving Brooklyn - fugheddaboutbreast!"eh.."Welcome to Brooklyn - 4th largest city in the US" - WELCOME BACK, KOTTER.."All the folks in Manhattan are sad..because they look at her and wish they had..the good old Brooklyn Bridge" - FRANK SINATRA (penned by sweet Jews Sammy Cahn (b. Pakula (sweet NYer) and starring Jane Fonda as a high-priced call girl and Donald Sutherland as a private detective, that ignited Mr. McNally's (restaurateur) yearning to come to New York. "It's the middle of a hot Manhattan night, and Jane Fonda and Donald Sutherland are on some steamy downtown street corner buying groceries," Mr. McNally recalled of the film. "The idea that in New York one could do this at 2 in the morning, as opposed to what one presumed Fonda and Sutherland had been doing until 2 in the morning, verged on the exotic to me." It was one tiny element in the scene - "the brown paper bags that each of Fonda's groceries were packed into" - that most caught Mr. McNally's eye. "I've loved those brown paper bags ever since," he said, "but separating the idea of them from love with Jane Fonda has been difficult. It's probably why I do so much shopping" - IN THE DARK, BIG CITY DREAMS By JAMES SANDERS.."I think NY restaurants sets a trend for the rest of the world. There's no other place that has the diversity and the experience of the chefs and restaurants that NYC has" - STEPHEN P=2E HANSON, P.R. The Olympics draws contestants from all countries. "Each time she brought a different course, she acted out the dishes, singing the praises of each type of food." Briana may have been offering a special service, since this is not one of those Broadway-area restaurants that advertises its singing waiters. But she certainly made an impression. "She put on a great show," says the 14-year-old Radcliffe. "On top of that, I had the best-tasting 16-ounce steak." - DANIEL RADCLIFFE, British actor, star of Harry Potter, as told to Neil Rosen's "My Favorite Place," NY Post, May 29th, 2004) 623
