Cyrus: The union demanded a substantial raise over the next years plus lowering of the retirement age from an already-shockingly-low 55 to 50(!). They already not only retire incredibly early, but they get overtime included in calculation of pay that is the base of pension enbreastlements. And they're vastly overpaid for low or even unsend work. It's simply crazy what they have now and crazier still what they demand from the city. Yes, they actually wanted even more -- 24 per cent pay increases over the next three years, plus lowering of the retirement age to 50! The Authority can only be criticized for being too generous with its current offer (retirement at age 62, or even 65, is totally unreal for the modern era; 70 or higher is real), which keeps retirement at a very early age plus boosts pay. The union simply is outrageous here. The strikers should all be fired and replaced, and as much contracting out and privatization should be sought as is possible. NYC Transit workers should be fired 864Seth Breidbart Me, me, me, me, me...and folks wonder why we can't all just get along? The question which you keep avoiding is, what if you're NOT worth it... ... The MTA said it put its final deal on the table Friday, offering: a 9 percent wage increase over 3 years; the union wants 8 percent per year. Also, the MTA wants all new employees to pay a 1 percent premium towards their health plan. The union wants them to continue to pay nothing. New hires would also not be eligible to receive their full pension until age 62, instead of the current age of 55. The union wants it lowered to 50.
