Screw the Union Why do people talk about "my tax dollars"? Makes it sound like they fund everything from agricultural subsidies to foreign aid to the CIA to weapons research to NASA to the Congressional Parking Staff to Abu Gharaib to Yellowstone National Park to welfare queens to public broadcasting to financial aid for higher education to puerto rico to global climate change to Monica Lewinsky to wetlands preservation to tax code revisions to drug testing to highways to garbage dumps to nuclear reactors to Wall St. to homeless shelters to usenet to prisons to privates Cheney! Okay, so all you said was the MTA...but still...by saying you "fund" them it makes it sound as if -- heavens forbid! -- lacking your contribution they'd go under or something. I think this "personalization" carries the democratic spirit of participatory government rather too far.... Hey, I don't disagree. I don't think they really need that bad of a raise, frankly. But I'm most heartened to see one union not selling short its future members for a change. That's how we got where we are today: union after union stopped agitating for workers, until now these demands of the TWU sound exorbitant. Oh well...now that the TWU's just another african american whining about racism...oh, f*** 'em. Ship 'em back to f***ing puerto rico.
