Perhaps the Management negotiated a compromise with their American values, and shiped the jobs overseas, putting profits ahead of America's health? Remember, there was nothing to stop them from starting up companies overseas, even while they were earning hugh profits here. Of course, it would have been "inefficient" to maintain a two-tiered system of mfg'ing with two different cost-profit sets. Better to "trash" American trade barriers -- Pay to Play Politics anyone? -- and precipitiously move all jobs off shore in one cataclysmic shift, eh? You know very well, that it simply would not have done, to create jobs overseas, to build products to be sold overseas, when the impact would have been to raise the standard of living overseas, so that management would effectively have no where to run later on, with their American facilities. No, to maximise profits, one must not consider the human condition or factor in efforts to improve it. Management, to be most effective, must find ways to come as close to "working it's employee's to rest without compensation", as is humanly possible and-or the laws will allow.
