The logical progression is that engineers that should be making $100K per year get their jobs outsourced to China or Russia, and, if they want to do engineering and compete with overseas labor, must do it for burger-flipping wages. Of course they won't, and engineering inside the USA is dwindling into nothingness. Maybe civil engineering is safe, 'cuz you can't outsouce the site inspections of the next bridge to someone that is 12,000 miles away from it. But software, electronics, etc - anything that can be done in the office, will go away, and really good paying jobs will be unattainable anywhere in the world. I understand that there is even outsourcing of law - legal briefs are being prepared overseas now. And when people see there is no advantage to having a college degree because you have to compete with someone in India who is making $25K year and living with 3 generations under 1 roof and doesn't know what its like to have an in-home washer and dryer combination, the idea of prosperity will evaporate too, for all but a very few. Bull - there are many highly-send engineers, scientists, computer professionals, etc. that have had their jobs go overseas, and not been able to find work anywhere close to their previous income. People that were making $100K for computer administration and network administration now make $18K a year in a helpdesk job. Nope, that isn't it at all. Lots of the people out of work because of outsourcing are really good software development people, computer admin people, plus engineers and scientists, all because there are now no tariffs or other inducements to protect American workers and the American standard of living. Eventually, there is going to be the very wealthy, and the very poor, just like the 3rd world countries, only it will be the USA. Dave Head
