Its not just illegals, either. At the height of the software job surge just before the collapse in 2000, the damn government was allowing the Indians to come here and take American jobs for less, all legal-like, with H-1B visas. These guys would come over under corprate sponsorship, were very constrained in their ability to leave the sponsoring company to go job-shopping, so had to take the much-substandard pay that the government was offering. They weren't even in the state of working toward citizenship - they were just job-wrecking interlopers, working for peanuts, and living 8 - 10 people in a house to keep expenses down, and still sending a pile of money back home. Now that they wrecked the software industry in the USA, they've gone back home and the jobs are being outsourced to them. Only the defense jobs are fairly safe, since we can't have the people who might one day challenge us for our land or prosperity with military force knowing, or even placing bug in the code for our hellfire missles or cruise missles. We at least are smart enough to keep that technology to ourselves. Its just that prosperity via working for private industry is going to go the way of the do-do. Dave Head
