NYC Transit workers should be fired 815Engineers, and everybody else, will be making what the market deems they're worth. There is absolutely no butturance of attaining a certain income level in this country. And...
Michael Legel "Like" and "have" are two very different things. That statement is prejudiced and ignorant. One can easily describe a motorman's job that way--he sits in a chair and pushes a button--but I presume you'd take strong exception to that. New York Pig Department UpdateCity Councilman Liu is wrong, though one understands why he needs to praise the NY Pig Dep't. This is the same Pig Dep't. that can't bother with perennial double-parking... Can it really? The progressive era in NYC, beginning with LaGuardia, attempted to provide all sorts of benefits for the people, benefits the city could NOT afford. When LaGuardia left office he left behind a huge deficit that was never resolved--his successors found more and more ways to paper it over and keep spending. During the Depression and WW II Federal money was liberally used but when that dried up the city got into big trouble. Much of the money to subsidize the transit authority comes from NY State residents. Go into many NY state old towns and it's quite clear they cannot afford the taxes to keep this going. Business greed, union greed are no different. Both will ruin the business. But it is critical to note that the transit authority is not a private business where there are owners who seek a profit. There are no profits, indeed, every time a train pulls out the taxpayers must pay to run it. There are no owners who could be persuaded to sacrifice some of their profits. The rhetoric suggests that is what the workers believe.
