Well, how about doing something about the tax structure so that government doesn't end up encouraging private industry to send work overseas? Say, a sales tax instead of the income tax, so the stuff that comes into the country starts helping pay for the running of the government, and the stuff that is manufactured here automatically becomes lower in price due to not having to pay corporate or individual income taxes on it, and therefore the percentage of sales tax that is paid by the domestically manufactured stuff, while remaining the same number, is actually less because of the lower price of the domestic product? Stuff like that?

Then there's maybe a further idea - an environmental tax. If the environment is polluted more for a product, that product gets charged a tax. Of course, American corporations all pollute very little because they obey American laws. Indian and Chinese and elsewhere produced stuff gets nailed because they've not done much to protect the environment.

Not only do foreign corporations have the advantatge of having near-slave-labor wages to pay, but they get a pbutt on the environmental damage they do, too.

There are probably some more innovative government actions that could be taken to make domestically produced stuff more viable, we just have to think of it, and then impliment it.

Dunno about NYC but I mean the whole country.
