On Fri, 30 Dec 2005 16:25:27 -0500, Vince Both as a consulting engineer and an attorney, I used to receive unsolicited resumes by paper- and e-mail on a regular basis. Some I would generate a "thank you but we have no positions for you" reply, most I would just route to the bucket. As rude as it sounds, that was expected behavior in those fields. Making the rounds of an office building distributing a resume door-to-door (that's what you did say) is one level below that. Even when I was looking for clients, I was very circumspect about who I sent prospectuses (the equivalent of resumes) to, making sure that they were the exact type of folks who would need my specialized services, and preferably had a contact there who knew me either personally or by reputation. I also was "registered" with two Legal Referral services, one handling legal insurance clients, the other a general-public service, and even then I was selective in who I wanted to represent. Have you considered job-shopping? My wife was a "shopper" for most of her engineering career and was rarely out of work, even after she became a "senior". Good luck in your search. -- Phil Kane -- Beaverton, Oregon PNW Milepost 754 -- Tillamook District
