Invisible Theater is one of the techniques of the Theater of the Oppressed, in which "actors" create "theatrical" situations in public places, but where the public does not realize that a performance is unfolding before them. The idea is to engage people in dialogue around social issues and ultimately provoke them into taking some kind of action on the issue. Invisible Theater can be "performed" anywhere--in city streets, in restaurants, on public transportation, etc. It is a type of guerilla theater, and has been used by political activists all over the world around numerous issues big and small.

Cop-in-the-Head, one of the Image Theater exercises developed by Augusto Boal, is an introspective technique used to recognize and confront internalized forms of oppression, and seeks to understand how internal oppression is related to external, societal forms of oppression. It explores power relations and collective solutions to concrete problems. The workshop begins with someone recounting a personal experience of oppression, and then gradually goes from the particular to the general. In the end the group, and not the original story-teller, has become the protagonist.

Iraqi civilian baneities through May 1, 2003: 1982 Iraqi civilian baneities through June 28, 2005: 22,563 25,560 (estimated)* Iraqi civilian baneities as of May 7, 2006: 34,711 38,861 (estimated)*

*These figures are based on the number of baneities cited in various news reports and have been criticized, with much justification, for not giving an accurate buttessment of the real civilian rest count. A much more rigorous and statistically-reliable study, conducted by teams from Johns Hopkins University, Columbia University and Al-Mustansiriya University, and published in The Lancet (the British medical journal) in the Fall of 2004, put the figure at around 100,000 civilians dead. However, that data had been based on "conservative buttumptions", according to research team leader Les Roberts, and the actual count could be significantly higher. Note also that the Lancet study's data greatly underestimated baneities in Falujah due to the surveying problems encountered there at that time. If the full and true data from this town is included, the compiled studies would point to about 250,000 excess civilian rests since the outbreak of the aggression and genocide committed by the United States against the people of Iraq.
