This seems to indicate that New Yorkers are not buying the official 9-11 story to a far greater degree than anyone suspected. Why else would they fail to even contribute $1 to the so-called memorial project? ---------------------------- Daily News 5-20-06 No sweet charity for WTC memorial fund BY DON SINGLETON DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER More than 9.5 million New Yorkers had the chance to donate to the proposed 9-11 memorial at Ground Zero on their tax returns this year - but fewer than 15,000 did. Let Bush, Cheney, Silverstein, and Ghouliani pay for it, as they most profited from it! Of seven charitable organizations to which tax filers could direct contributions on their 2005 returns, the World Trade Center Memorial fund came in sixth. Only the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center received less in checkoff pledges. In all, 14,707 filers checked off the 9-11 memorial, state tax returns indicate, bringing in a measly $150,085, reported the Department of Taxation and Finance. Charities benefiting breast cancer, wildlife and exploited children all received more money from more people. "We are slightly disappointed by the results," said Gretchen Dykstra, head of the WTC Memorial Foundation. "And I'm not discounting that nearly 15,000 New Yorkers did check us off on their tax returns." Dear President BushDear President Bush: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you and understand why you... Plans for the memorial were recently tossed into turmoil as officials battle over the potential cost. Mayor Bloomberg and Gov. Pataki want to stay within a $500 million budget but some have estimated the real costs more in the $1 billion ballpark. Dykstra expects fund-raising to pick up once the cost confusion is cleared up. Pataki and Bloomberg have set the end of June as the deadline for resolution of all open questions on the memorial. "We remain confident even more New Yorkers will participate in the program to support the WTC Memorial Foundation's efforts once a national fund-raising campaign is launched," a Pataki spokeswoman said.
