Explain me something, please. What are PSC folks so riled up about? Is it that bad to be without a contract? You're still working, still getting paid, for, what, 20 hrs. a week (and please, "office hours" are pretty much bullpoo; I've had professors gently but firmly rush me out of the office so they can get their own work done or go home though this one guy, until his retirement, commuted by plane every week from Arizona just to teach at CUNY)...you basically do what you want in the clbuttroom and outside it, and if you care for interesting conversations you can set things up so that you are entertained while you're on the clock. What's the problem? I probably have my figures wrong since my time in school, no doubt, but I'm curious what the faculty are always griping about. Administrators can look even worse, I'd agree, but faculty are no angels either, I don't care how many out-of-the-way student testimonials can be dredged up (for every shining star prof there are dozens of deadwood just bullpooting until tenure or a better job outside academe). The truth is that tenured college profs have an EASY lifestyle, the easiest this side of pro golfers, and even the buttociate profs and adjunct profs -- even plain ol' Instructors and Lecturers -- have more than decent hours and wages and working conditions, relatively speaking.
