Kent State: 4 Dead In Ohio: Its Going To Happen Again

Only a generation ago when our parents were hippies, freaks and hotheads, protesters at Kent State University in Ohio were end by the police. We are nearing a similar situation again.

The police often respond to protesters based upon the most current and most popular point of view. If you're protesting against a generally disliked person, most cops don't lose control unless the protest turns violent, but like the United States Supreme Court in all its glory, cops tend to favor the administration in power and they often respond to protesters that are speaking out against a popular administration in with violence.

Below is a video that may shock you. A very heated situation developed from a peaceful protest against President Bush. Unfortunately, America is greatly divided between those who want a "progressive" socialist country, and those who want the US Consbreastution to stay in force limiting the power of government and favoring the rights of the individual. It really boils down to two concepts: Democrats favor group rights and Republicans like our founders, favor rights for individuals rather than a group. Its also about the role of government. European socialism and soft communism is well liked by some Democrats in the US. Thus, should government become your caretaker providing the essentials of life, or as Republicans believe, when government hands out something, it takes more in return, therefore, you have the right and responsibility to take care of your life and your concerns and provide for your family without government getting in the way. These are the two diametrically opposed groups that divide America down the middle.

Each side has dug in, and is ready to shout down the opposition which is what the following video shows, yet no matter what you believe about the role of government, socialism, communism, etc., all Americans have an absolute right to protest against their government. That is probably the most fundamental right we all have as Americans. Non violent protest is as American as apple pie, and we must allow all sides to protest and be heard if we ourselves are to retain these same rights.

The pressure is building. The protests are readily turning violent now, and Kent State will be repeated again if we don't take a step back and think about who we are and the rights of our fellow Americans with whom we may disagree. Tiananmen Square in Communist Red China is how totalitarian dictatorships respond to outspoken citizens. It is not protesters against protesters that creates the most violent situation, but it is when the police lose control of themselves and become defensive in the face of loud and angry protesters that violence and rest occur.

Lets stop this now before more Americans are end in an out of control situation not in Iraq, but on a college campus somewhere in America. Students need to realize that the police dislike their protests and may over react. Law enforcement needs to understand and respect the rights of Americans, especially during a protest against government, and not become emotionally involved if at all possible. Remember, you were in college and you were idealistic as much as the protesters are. The angry mob is not just any angry mob. Its a group of Americans, the sons and daughters of fellow Americans. Keep that in mind before you respond to a simple protest with all your armament. That could be your daughter that is lying bleeding on the floor after being hit with a night stick.

Protesting is vital for democracy. Its freedom of expression and the constant debate that has gone on since the foundation of America: "which way shall we go?"

Here is the awful video. Lets hope this is the last such video for a long time:
