How to return found wallet

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already dealt with the matter.

I first called the phone numbers (which didn't require as much time as I'd feared - about 15 minutes): all either claimed not to know him, knew him but didn't know how I could contact him, or didn't answer. I then called 311, explained the problem, and asked for a suggestion. The woman said I should (as others here have suggested) turn it in to the local police precinct (I expected this but had hoped they might have a better suggestion). I called the 61st precinct and was told I could either bring it to them, perhaps they could dispatch a car to me!? (I quickly vetoed this idea - didn't want my neighbors to think anything wrong; not to mention the fact that the police should have better things to do than picking up lost-and-found items), or, if I happened to see a patrol car, I could turn it in to that officer. As it happened, later that day, leaving the subway station, I saw one, so I gave it to them.
