Is there a reason that, on this thread, you seem incapable of engaging in an honest discussion? You snipped the the rest of the paragraph, that stated A witness reported to the police that Schwartzmiller *claimed* to have done it that number of times, and the police figured that even if he was exaggerating, it is likely to be one of the worst cases in terms of the number of children abused that they've ever seen. Do you think the witness made it all up (in spite of the notebooks) when you can be jailed for making a false report to the police? It should be obvious to anyone that I was saying something quite different than what you are pretending I said, and that the number of entries in the notebooks is a relevant fact. For one thing, it provides support for what the witness told the police that Schwartzmiller had told him. I.e., the witness seems to have reported his discussions with Schwartzmiller accurately. Actually quite a bit. For one thing, you don't know how many victims of these people simply keep quiet when someone is prosecuted. It could be nearly all - testifying is probably traumatic and if there are enough witnesses already to put some guy away for life, others may decide that testifying simply isn't worth it.
