One can take the easy way out and try to fool one's self into believing that Iraq is really a part of the 'war on terror' and that the invasion, and contiued struggle, is really making one safer at home. One can choose to believe that a small closed circle of elites in Washington with a questionable track record, at best, somehow has the proper 'intelligence' at their disposal to properly decide if the invasion and occupation of Iraq is warranted. In other words, one can choose to look the other way and not examine the situation critically. Or one could choose healty cynicism and skepticism, and realize that the current administration had an agenda all along to invade Iraq for selfish reasons. All they needed was a good catalyst to do so. In the events of 9-11-01, they found that catalyst and engaged in a public relations campaign to connect terrorism at home to the regime in Iraq. Unfortunately, a number of rather feeble-minded and non-critical thinkers (and we use that term loosely) took the proverbial bait. Now, we are all paying for that with tax dollars, military casualties abroad, and no more enhanced security at home.
