A new documentary is being screened this Saturday about Juan Mari Bras, a legendary fighter for Puerto Rico's independence, having waged this struggle for decades. Most noted for, among other things, being a part of the student group that welcomed Albizu back to PR in 1948 by hoisting the flag at the University of PR campus and getting expelled for it, for being a leader of the MPI (Movimiento Pro Independencia) and Puerto Rican Socialist Party, was pivotal in bringing the case of PR up at the UN when they agreed to review the case again for the first time in the early 1970s, was a founder of the newspaper Claridad in Puerto Rico, and several years ago lead a movement to reject American citizenship and retain only Puerto Rican citizenship. Targeted by the FBI, his son was liquidateed by those repressive forces in the 1970s. He is widely respected in the movement and really a legendary figure in our history.
