Dear Supporters of Cuba Solidarity New York (CSNY),

On July 26, 2003 the tradition in New York City of celebrating the attack on the Moncada Garrison, which marked the initiation of the Cuban Revolution in 1953, was re-insbreastuted on its 50th Anniversary in an event attended by 700 people. The July 26th Organizing Committee was established for the organization of this now-annual event.

This year's celebration will be on Saturday, July 30 at the Martin Luther King Auditorium in the 1199-SEIU Building and will also commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of a chapter of the July 26th Movement in New York City in 1955 and honor one of the founders and still-going-strong activist companero Luis Miranda. A short political program, featuring a representative from the Cuban Mission to the United Nations, will be followed by dinner, drinks, and dancing to a variety of music.

Attached to this emailing is the flyer for the event. We urge all CSNY supporters and others receiving this email to attend, publicize, and organize for this important gathering. Please reproduce and distribute this flyer. Attractive smaller cards are also available for publicity and outreach at the next CSNY meeting and at various political centers in New York. If you have an email list or listserve, please forward the flyer to your lists.

The next CSNY meeting will be on Tuesday, July 19 at the 1199-SEIU Building, 310 West 43rd Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues (Times Square Subway Stop), at 6:30 PM. Check the front desk for the floor and room number. The meeting will update the current situation in Cuba, including the devastation and recovery from Hurricane Dennis. CSNY activist Bob Miller will also give a brief report on his recent trip to China. The agenda will focus on building the July 30 Celebration and planning for the August 19-21 CSNY retreat in the Catskills.
