"Witnesses say the growing mob of attackers shouted anti-white racial slurs. But police, after making five arrests, refused to charge it as a hate crime." S'matter, Mr. District Attorney, afraid Fat Al Sharpton will threaten a bongo party if these ghetto savages aren't treated with kid gloves? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Teenagers Charged with Bias Attack at Playground go to Court By Eyewitness News' Ken Rosato (Downtown Brooklyn-WABC,April 26,2005) - Several young girls are expected to be in court today accused of yelling racial slurs at a group of white teenagers during a brawl in a Brooklyn Park. Eyewitness News reporter Ken Rosato is live outside Brooklyn Family Court in Downtown Brooklyn with more. The fight was March 30th in Marine Park. Six white girls allegedly were beaten by a group of 20 to 30 teenagers after they refused to give up a basketball court to a group of African American girls. Father of Alleged Bias Attack Victim:"When I got there she has black eyes her nose was swollen, her lip was all blown up. It was very upsetting." The girls were kicked in the head, punched, and chased into traffic. One had a clump of hair pulled out when she was dragged away from a nearby house where she had sought help. Witnesses say the growing mob of attackers shouted anti-white racial slurs. But police, after making five arrests, refused to charge it as a hate crime. Father: "It just seemed like everybody wanted to downplay it." Now the City's corporation counsel has over ruled the NYPD and community leaders say police are too concerned with making their crime statistics look as good as possible. State Senator Carl Kruger, (D) Brooklyn: "I think at the end of the day, if we really reported crimes and we label them for what they are, then the Bloomberg numbers would never really look so good look so good." Families of the attack victims say it's been very frustrating dealing with police, who they say seemed intent on playing down the incident.
