well, the clbuttic old skool feminist theory regarding marriage and men was the "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle"

there has been a big backlash against this ideology, mostly from women as they got into their late 30's, never married, no children, and realized that maybe they made the wrong choice, talking to their friends who claimed that raising a child was FAR more fulfilling than doing the corporate work-a-holic thang

the old skool feminist approach regarding CHOICE was also very AGAINST choice

simone de beauvoir (sp?) famously said

here's another good blurb. mentioned in the ATLANTIC MONTHLY of all places "The relationship between single-parent families and crime is so strong...

No woman should be authorized to stay at home to raise her children. Society should be totally different. Women should not have that choice, precisely because if there is such a choice, too many women will make that one." -- Simone de Beauvoir, quoted in The Saturday Review, June 14, 1974, p. 18

wow.

here's some other clbuttics:

Whither Semitism... 1925
I was completely unaware of that. I'm not even sure I know what you mean. Are you saying that when linguists try to say...

"You become a semi-nonperson when you get married." -- Gloria Steinem

Since marriage consbreastutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women's movement must concentrate on attacking this insbreastution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage." -- Sheila Cronan

"Being a housewife is an illegitimate profession... The choice to serve and be protected and plan towards being a family-maker is a choice that shouldn't be. The heart of radical feminism is to change that." -- Vivian Gornick, University of Illinois, "The Daily Illini," April 25, 1981

"The end of the insbreastution of marriage is a necessary condition for the liberation of women." -- from "The Declaration of Feminism," November 1971

consideration, read te whole thing, because i am not disagreeing with you. i am not disagreeing with you about your conclusion. i am saying there is...

"In order to raise children with equality, we must take them away from families and communally raise them." -- Dr. Mary Jo Bane, buttociate director of the Wellesley College Center for Research on Women

which shows that the extremists were not FOR CHOICE. they were for ideology over everything, and that women who got married and-or chose to be homemakers, were selling out "the cause"

they were for CONTROLLING women, because even amidst all their stalinist rhetoric, they tacitly admitted that GIVEN a choice, many women would not choose the choice that fit their extremist feminist utopia.

recently, of course, much of this absurd dogma is starting to get thrown away.

Ah, so arguing against your views is " being an butthole "... No proof offered ? Claim fails. " Ad hominem: The last refuge of the fact free scoundrel. " " marriage like " isn't marriage. Period. And, laws could...

some excellent books on marriage, mental health, quality of life, etc. have also shown (through numerous studies) the mental, financial, and other benefits to marriage

but the above de beauvoir quote, etc. shows that the extremists were not interested in increasing choice. they were interested in controlling women's lives and not recognizing the dignity of being a homemaker

gloria steinem was perhaps the most famous of the extremist, anti-choice, control women at all costs, "feminists"

that she is iconic for the movement says a lot
